@Riger depends on how the detection magic works, if it's basically a motion sensor, rather than life detection, then it's possible that it's adjusted to not trigger on the plants swaying in the breeze, so it might make sense that a hiding gorilla may be overlooked. |

I think the real problem is that they should have gone over what the abilities of the Chameleon Kong are since it seems that Rude actually does know about Chameleon Kongs but most of the others don't seem to know much about them |

anyone ever notice how every manga with Giant Apes always has them calling for back up with a skill? is it because of dragon quest? is that a thing that happened in that game? monkeys constantly calling for backup? |

@Riger : Depending on how many monsters there are, requiring them to know the abilities of all of them (even if only up to your rank) is not reasonable. Normally an adventurer would encounter a monster from a quest taken at the adventurers guild, or in a dungeon, and able to research the individual monsters in the area before hand. These kids were passing through town, and it is a monster not commonly found there, so that resource is not available. @mage_goo : The soldiers are only going to focus/study up on the monsters that are normally found in their area, there are not normal to the area so they have an excuse. While an encyclopedia would make sense, the likely size required, combined with most of the information being in the hands of non-scholars makes it less likely to exist, or be cheap enough for the average joe to be able to read it. It would not surprise me if the guild has one, but it is a resource for the guild and adventurers only. Keep in mind how much knowledge has been lost because it was only ever passed on master to apprentice rather, than written down, because they did not want their "trade secrets" getting out. |

@mage_goo Valid point. After going back, you know what I noticed? The adventurers (the ones PAID to be there to fight the monster) aren't even helping when there was only one beast. They aren't even IN the fight until the group is surrounded. Waste of gold, apparently. |

@Riger for all we know, there might be hundreds type of rank c monster unreasonable to think that someone that young would know the inside out of each and every one of them now, not doing research beforehand to know exactly the true extent of their stealth capability? that's 100% on them they might be young and out in the sticks, but considering newspaper reaches this village, having a monster encyclopedia ain't too much of a stretch. then again, it's mostly the bumpkin soldier that's shown underestimating the kong, so it might actually fits the stereotype. |

@Askorti C rank adventurers should know about C rank monsters, don't you think? Or you could re-read and see that the douchebag (Shinaness) there seems to know what a chameleon kong is, and yet didn't know they could hide... Nope. This is just another ass pull for plot (or lack) purposes. People of the world obviously know what a chameleon is, otherwise it wouldn't have gained that prefix in its name. Though changing colors shouldn't have made magic scans not see them. There's a huge difference between changing the color of their hair and actually distorting spacial phenomenon. But like this current argument, logic has no place because 'magic'. |

@Riger it's a sort-of medieval-ish setting (with print newspapers in some run down villages... smh) do you think that everyone would know what a chameleon is? Imagine a world without internet, and with far fewer books and libraries... |
