So far he seems like a guy who just wants to fix the school, as we know he is the son of that inspector and doesn't seem like a particularly bad guy.

And for him to know about the attack probably was a part of those thugs' plan. they wanted to bait him, reinforced by the fact that they split into 2 teams to corner him.
