Wow ok, I don't think it's gonna be replied by this many people in this short time span. @firewalker @EzioAs @Pen3 @Drumgor @scarletcrow thank you for sharing your knowledge, I'm not familiar with baseball, nor do I have consumed many media that features baseball in it's story. Also, to summarize (I hope I got this right), the catcher is like the one who make the calls on the team when they're on pitch-catch position and if he fails to catch, the batter got a free run, although he could still be hit with the ball. |

Oh damn, he noticed. What a tease. I can see why you changed it from salad to cattail. Although I'm curious if you considered something like "this bowl of salad is good"? Seems like that could have worked. Not trying to be picky about the translation, just a thought. Last edited 4 mo ago by ReaperCreeper. |

CLIFFHANGER!! I'VE NEVER EXPECTED THAT IN A (former) COMEDY SERIES!! |

Not really a baseball guy, but just to add from what I know. Usually catcher is also the person who is the most knowledgeable, sometimes even more so than the ace pitcher. As he's also the one facing the outfield, a good catcher can also read the flow of the game and decide which action should be taken by the pitcher (e.g. catching someone trying to steal base) or even other defensive players (e.g. shifting defense to the side that the batter tends to hit). Catcher usually is the more "brainy" type of player, afaik. Last edited 4 mo ago by scarletcrow. |

@raifive the catcher calls the pitches and the pitcher will either agree or not. The catcher has to catch the ball and try to paint it in the strike zone to get the call. A good catcher can sometimes make a ball look like a strike and fool the umpire. If the catcher fails to catch the ball, its live and acts like a hit, the batting team can try to advance and even score. |

@raifive Other than Nidou, I don't think their team has any other decent catcher so Kadota is vital. Also, according to baseball rules: 6.05 A batter is out when— ... (b) A third strike is legally caught by the catcher... 6.09 The batter becomes a runner when— ... (b) The third strike called by the umpire is not caught, providing (1) first base is unoccupied, or (2) first base is occupied with two out... In other words, outside these two condition, I'm assuming nothing happens when a catcher fails to catch the ball and they just have a ball guy pick the ball up and throw back. |

@raifive IIRC if the catcher drops the ball or otherwise fails to catch, the batter can run to first base. The catcher can still throw to first base and take out the batter, but it's still a critical error. Also, you've probably seen it here and in other baseball manga, but catchers work closely with the pitcher as they figure out how to strike-out the batter. You can see Kadota directing Yugami's pitches. |
