Actually it's not always an insect. Gu in this novel can sometimes takes the form of insect, animal, plant or even rock. You can just think of them as weapons or tools that cultivators use.

No point talking with an idiot, gu = insect, not poison, dont read wikipedia, or you will become even more stupid.

I'm sorry to say the whole theme in novel revolves around "Gu" which are basically insects. How do I know it? It's because the whole novel mention it. There are poisonous, healing, thunder, plunder, ice insects, etc.
So tell me, is thunder insect poisonous or toxic? Is healing insect poisonous or toxic?
The novel goes so far to describe insects MC got. All of them got insect "look" except by very few which don't look like insects. Just remove the word "venomous" and you got it right for this title.

This brings me back to my original post-what the hell was the guy referring to then when he said 'bring your biggest gu'? Biggest poison? Biggest bewitch? Biggest drive to insanity? Biggest witchcraft? Biggest intestinal Parasite?

In this case, it's the biggest insect. Yeah, the "insects" in this comic are sometimes strange... Unlike the novel version.

Gu or jincan, (lit. "gold silkworm") was a venom-based poison associated with cultures of south China, particularly Nanyue. The traditional preparation of gu poison involved sealing several venomous creatures (e.g., centipede, snake, scorpion) inside a closed container, where they devoured one another and allegedly concentrated their toxins into a single survivor. Gu was used in black magic practices such as manipulating sexual partners, creating malignant diseases, and causing death. According to Chinese folklore, a gu spirit could transform into various animals, typically a worm, caterpillar, snake, frog, dog, or pig.

Pay attention to the bolded. The gu is the poison. The poison is a gateway for everything else including the other stuff you quoted. All of these are connected to thatpoison[/b]. Therefore using the word "poison" is correct. There's no need to go further in your definition game. IT IS WHAT IT IS. Yes, Gu is the family name in the manga...so it makes sense to use the word "Gu". Thats why it makes perfect sense to just replace the "gu" with poison or use the damn right words depending on the context. This brings me back to my original post-what the hell was the guy referring to then when he said 'bring your biggest gu'? Biggest poison? Biggest bewitch? Biggest drive to insanity? Biggest witchcraft? Biggest intestinal Parasite? You see how you(the writer) fuck yourself up by not being specific? If it's poison, use the damn English word. If it's witchcraft, USE THE DAMN WORD. Thats my gripe with this manga and this chapter slapped me in the face and made even more obvious. Not only does it sound funny it's just not a practical way to express things. Once again, UNLIKE QI which there are NO English words to translate into...it makes perfect sense to use QI but gu just like you mentioned can be all things thats associated with POISON.

I've spent too much time on clarifying even when both of us have the definition in front of us. I don't know what the issue is, really. I'm done with this arc in my life. Have a Gu day. lol

@kanaloa In the story, it's the name of their clan. Names are not translated you know. If, for example, your name is Kanaloa, then it is Kanaloa and wouldn't be translated as "squid god."

"Poison" is the general word for every single type of poison. Gu is the proper name of a poison. It's like "arsenic" or "nightshade." "Arsenic" wouldn't be translated as "poison."

BTW, his insect doesn't even poison as its primary use. It's actually a time-travel insect.

Going to be honest. I'm dropping this manga because of the word "gu". It's getting really annoying. I can understand that if it's a word like dou qi where there's no direct translation in english to be used. But Gu is poison. So just use the damn word in English. Replace GU with poison or toxic. Just this chapter...the guy was like...I am willing to offer my youth to the biggest gu...LOL I'm sorry I can't handle that. It sounds too silly. The story starts out decent but between the word "gu" and the story? I'm dropping this shit because of the word haha

have a GUUUU day haha
